The Green Lady

Im so interested in Mythology and one thing that caught me was the stories of the glaistig. She is said to be of great beauty and wore a green gown which covers her curse, she has goat legs. She also has immortality. She is normally seen on the side of a stream washing something. She seems to be alot like the deer woman or Longana.

Short Story by Me (John Adams)

The town was only about 40 people making it very small and quiet, everyone there knew each other. Everyone seemed to have a place and everyone knew where they fit in. Georgia never felt like she fit in and the people of her town never let her forget it, she had been the only single woman in the town. Many of the people were appalled in the fact that a woman in her thirties was single and had never been with a man; this was made more shocking to the people since her beauty was overwhelming at times. She had long flowing blonde hair and beautiful brown eyes.

She had always wanted to find her soul mate and always dreamt of what he would look like, she was saddened when one day her grandmother had spoken to her about the matter of finding her a husband. She knew that it was time to do just that but there were only three single guys in the town. One was a widow named James, he had ran the butcher shop since he was a young man, and he was now in his late 50s and almost completely bald. Another was a 20 year old man named Louis who was the son of her neighbor and quiet handsome. He had always had a crush on her and she had known it, and the third was her cousin, so only two guys and only one was even decent for her. Upon the words of her grandmother she began spending more time with Louis. They began to fall in love and she knew that this was the man she was going to spend the rest of her life with.

The day before their wedding she had spotted a flying creature near the woods. She had followed it into the woods; it was glittering with light and never noticed her following it. She followed to a meadow within the woods. She amazed to find that it had finally noticed her. “Who are you?” it asked in a high voice. “I am Georgia, who are you? She replied. “I am Ula, why did you follow me?” “I saw your light and it just seemed right.” “What are you?” she asked. “Why I am a fairy, which means don’t tell anyone about me and as favor for not I will give you the best wedding dress” Ula said. “I won’t you have my promise.” she said. Just then a bright green dress appeared in the grass. You picked it up and tucked it into her bag. A noise came from out of the woods. “Georgia are you in there?” It was Louis. “I’m right here.” She said back. She looked back to see that Ula had disappeared, she began walking back and went back home.

The wedding the next day was amazing and more then Georgia had ever dreamt of. That night well lying with her husband she did something bad. “I don’t know you did it.” Louis said. “I don’t know how you got so beautiful, especially with that green dress, where did you find it?” “A friend gave it to me.” She said. “What friend?” he asked. Without thinking she said “Ula, a fairy.” Upon toughs’ words everything froze. She looked around there stood Ula. “I told you not to mention me.” She said. “For that you will be cursed.” She said. Georgia felt something change in her. Her legs were becoming more hairy, she looked at them and where her legs used to be was now a pair of goat legs; she had no feet only hooves. The green dress was hanging near the wall. She ran to it and put it on. It covered her now goat lower half. She ran out knowing that this was her life and the curse would forever ruin her happiness for her husband could never love her now.
